The three betel leaf varieties of Tamil Nadu that stand out for their taste and aroma





They are as old as the Sangam literature. Maduraikanchi states that the betel leaves were sold on the streets of Madurai during the late classical period.

The Authoor and Sholavandan varieties have secured the Geographical Indication tag.

The Kumbakonam betel leaf is exported to some countries.
