Months after remaining dry, several temple tanks in the city got partially filled after the recent spells of rain. Water levels in these tanks have risen between two feet and five feet.

Water in the tank at Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore has gone up by two feet. “It is the highest in the past seven months,” said a Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments department official. At the Parthasarathy temple in Triplicane, the level went up by three feet, while at the Karaneeswarar Temple in Saidapet, it was up by five feet. Facilitating the entry of rainwater into these tanks has raised the levels. S Kasthurirangan of Triplicane said a local association executed rainwater harvesting for the temple tank. “This has borne fruit as the water level that was about half-a-feet has jumped to three feet. Rainwater from all the streets in a 500m radius drains into the tank of Parthasarathy temple tank,” he said. TNN
