Kerala temple plans old-age home for cows

 

 

THRISSUR: The Guruvayur Devaswom board, which manages the Sri Krishna Temple in Kerala's Thrissur district is planning to convert a cattle-rearing centre into an "oldage home for cows and bulls". 

With the Kerala high court monitoring the situation at the facility following the filing of a public interest litigation on gross neglect of cattle, Devaswom authorities are planning a slew of measures.

As religion prohibits slaughter of cows, many Hindus abandon aging cattle at the Devaswom's 90acre facility near Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district. Four to five animals die there every month on an average, veterinarians said.
