Imaginary battles
Cut and thrust: A view of the Oachira Kali ritual in progress at the Oachira padanilam in Kollam on June 15. The festival to commemorate the battle between the erstwhile kingdoms of Kayamkulam and Ambalappuzha has men and boys dressed as warriors engaged in a mock battle, held on the first two days of the Malayalam month of Midhunam.
