A legacy of wood carving thrives at Thammampatti in Salem





The community of around 60 families and 200 artisans was founded by Andaver and his brother in 1942.

It is said the family learned wood carving from the temple workers of Thanjavur and its neibouring villages before it left to open a workshop at Thammampatti, which had plenty of Vaagai maram, a source of raw material
