A colourful start of the paddy season

 

 

 

 

The Valiyavalappil Chemundi Theyyam proceeds to Thimirivayal in Kasaragod district to sow paddy seeds to mark the beginning of the Puncha paddy farming season. A Theyyam is a ritualistic performance where pantheistic deities – goddesses in most part – are summoned to the body of the performing man. The form as well as the performance are known as Theyyam. This particular Theyyam is performed annually during the start of the Malayalam month of Thulam (mid-October-mid-November). Thulasi Kakkat
