The bumblebee is revered at the Shaktipeeta at Srisailam (one of the twelve jyotirlingas) where Parvati is believed to have taken birth as the humble insect, giving her the name bhramarambika, in order to be near her Lord Shiva who resides in the Srigiri Hill in the form of mallika or jasmine. Thus the temple is known as Bhramarambika Mallikarjuna Devalaya.
