Hedgehogs- An Invasive Species

- Genera and Species – Hedgehogs belong to the Erinaceinae sub-family, five genera under it with 16 species.
- Distribution- Hedgehogs are found in parts of Europe, Asia and Africa. No hedgehogs are found in Australia and America.
- Diet- Hedgehogs are omnivorous and feed on insects, snails, frogs and toads, snakes, bird egs, berried and melons and watermelons.
- Lifespan- Hedgehogs lifespan depends upon its size. Large species live 4 to 7 years and smaller species live 2 to 4 years.
- Speed- Hedgehogs are fast and can run in short bursts of spped 0f about 3.22 kmph.
- Hibernation- During hibernation, body temperature of the animal decreases to 2 °C.
