Curious bear leads to its rescue

 

 

 

 

Last week, an endangered sunbear cub was found to be kept in secret in a condo in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The six-month-old cub caught attention of residents after it poked its head through a window and roared loudly. Investigations revealed that Malaysian singer Zarith Sofia kept the bear cub and the case is being investigated. Subspecies

1. Malayan sun bear: Found on mainland Asia and Sumatra

2. Bornean sun bear: Found on the Island of Borne

Sun bear is the smallest of all bear species.

 

 

 

Diet

Being omnivores, they feed on termites, ants, beetle larvae, bee larvae and a large variety of fruit species.

 

 

 

Honey bear

Its appetite for honeycombs and honey gives it the nickname ‘honey bear’.

 

 

 

Habitat

Tropical evergreen forests

30% drop in population of sun bears in the last 30 years

 

 

 

Geographical Range

India’s northeast, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Yunnan province of China, and Sumatra and Borneo in Indonesia.
