Chandrashila Peak
Chandrashila literally means “Moon rock” in Hindi. It is a summit of 4000 meters and close to the Gangotri Hiamlayan range. Probably it derives its name from the ancient legend that the moon god Chandra once did penance here. There is another legend that Lord Rama did penance here after defeating Ravana. It offers a spectacular view of the Hiamlayan range and important peaks such as Nanda devi, Trisul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch and Chaukhamba peaks
Chandrashila summit is a rock face above and beyond the temple of Tungnath which is the highest Shiva temple in India. It is a spiritually inspiring place. It is also ideal for painters, artists and a secluded spot for those who want to meditate.
